One of my most memorable stories this month was this special collaboration with the United States Postal Service and an assisted living facility called Parkview Julian Convalescent. This Bakersfield-based story highlights human kindness during a time that can be so isolating for many of us.
Jamie Wright, a Postmaster and a Safety Engagement Officer for the Sierra Coastal Postal District, teamed up with her manager to launch the COVID Community Outreach Program.
She said she wanted to help bridge the gap for those living in assisted living facilities who don't have many ways to stay connected with their families and friends during this pandemic.
Jamie partnered with eight assisted living facilities throughout her district and started writing letters to encourage them. She said more than 20 co-workers and even her own children joined her efforts to reach out in this special way.
Jamie and her kids have received many letters in return and hope to meet some of their pen pals when it's safe to do so again.
