Covid-Friendly California Road Trip 2020: First Stop- Santa Barbara

Updated: Jan 2, 2021

I recently got back from a surprise vacation planned by my amazing husband Matty. For our three-year wedding anniversary and my 37th birthday, he put together an itinerary taking us all over California. We went from the coast to the mountains, and some of the resorts we stayed at were to die for.

I'll share about the places we went to via this blog - I'll start with my first stop and update with more destinations in the coming days and weeks, so keep checking back! ^_^

Santa Barbara

During our first night, we pulled into this city and explored State Street. I was curious about what it would look like during COVID-19, and sure enough it looked very different! Block after block was closed to vehicles, so we had to take a detour to get to our restaurant. The alfresco dining program was in full swing with many restaurants expanding their outdoor dining areas and putting out some really cool decorations.

Matty and I ate a freshly baked meat pizza with local beers from Institution Ale Co. I had the Nitro Cinnamon Swirl (Amber Ale w/ Cinnamon and Vanilla) and Matty got POG Daydreamin' (Golden Ale w/ Fruit). The pizza was so delicious and the beers were refreshing.

We saved room for dessert, and I introduced Matty to Mission Street Ice Cream and Yogurt Featuring McConnell's Fine Ice Creams. I loved my scoop of Chocolate Covered Strawberries on a sugar cone, and Matty was happy with his Double Peanut Butter Chip.
